Athboy has a population of around 2,500 according to the latest census. The town is located in County Meath and serves the Gaeltacht areas of Ráth Chairn and Baile Ghib.
Following an open appointments process, Meath County Council was appointed as the lead organisation for the language planning process in the town in July 2026.
