The Irish language in West Belfast has seen great growth and development in recent years.  The West Belfast Irish language network has a population of 42,265 and according to the 2011 census 24.5% of that population has some ability in the Irish language. The area has a number of Irish-medium nursery schools, primary schools and an Irish-medium secondary school. It also has an Irish language cultural centre, and is home to a number of community-based Irish language organisations.
