Carntogher Community Association was established in 1992. Since the committee was established it has successfully managed a wide range of projects including education, social enterprise, youth, culture and environment, with the Irish language at the centre of each of them in order to strengthen the language and the community in the area. Now more than 200 young people are fluent in the language and the number of adults who are fluent is growing, in addition to the many learners. The ethos of Gaelic culture is strong in the area with strong support for sport, music and dancing, in addition to high levels of good will and co-operation to develop the language in the local community.
