The town of Clifden is at the very west of County Galway. The town has a population of around 1,500 but it also services many people who live in the surrounding areas, such as the Gaeltacht Language PLanning Areas in west Galway.

In 2022 Forum Connemara were appointed as the lead organisation on the language planning process in the town, working with a range of other community organisations on the language planning steering committee. Work is currently taking place to prepare a language plan for the town that will add to the amount of Irish being spoken in the town and increase the number of services that are available through Irish.
